Social emotional development in early childhood: The use of books as a bridge between parents and teachers

Abstract

This study aims to describe how communication books are used to improve preschoolers’ social-emotional skills through collaboration between parents and teachers. The communication book functions as a daily communication medium between teachers and parents, containing records of children’s behavioral development, follow-up actions, and guidance for stimulation activities that can be implemented at home. It employs a descriptive qualitative approach with parents at Al-Ihsan Kindergarten Plus, Purwakarta as participants. Data were collected through interviews and observations and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that communication books help ensure consistency between home and school, positively influencing emotional regulation, social interaction, cooperation, empathy, participation in group activities, and independence. Therefore, communication books are an effective tool for supporting early childhood social-emotional development
